Water has consciousness! Science and spirituality both suggest that water is more than just a physical substance—it is a carrier of energy, intention, and information. From Dr. Masaru Emoto’s groundbreaking research to Veda Austin’s modern discoveries, we are beginning to understand that water is conscious, responsive, and deeply connected to our emotions and thoughts.
I vividly recall watching the movie
What the Bleep Do We Know!?
and being introduced to
Dr. Masaru Emoto's research on the consciousness of water.
For years, I even shared a five-minute clip from that film in my classes to illustrate the impact of negative self-talk. More recently,
Veda Austin's work has further ignited my awareness of water's power. Expanding upon Dr. Emoto's findings, her research is truly fascinating. My friend Leah and I took a class with her in February 2023. We learned her method for freezing the water and a little bit about how to
interpret the messages.
Unfortunately, I haven't experimented with her crystallography techniques as much as I'd like. I do speak to my water daily,
setting intentions, imprinting positive energy, and expressing love and gratitude. But my renewed inspiration came from attending a Gaia Emersion event where she was a presenter. It made me realize that these small, daily practices might be interesting to you as well.
Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work opened my eyes to the profound intelligence of water. When he wrote the word Love on a container of water and froze it, the result was a stunning, symmetrical crystal—like the water bloomed in response. But when he wrote I hate you, the frozen crystal turned dark, fragmented, and disordered. His experiments showed me that water responds to intention, energy, and frequency… just like we do.
I carried this understanding with me for years. It taught me to be mindful of the energy in the room while drinking water. When I came across Veda Austin’s work, even more dots connected. I discovered that water doesn’t just respond—it remembers. It’s conscious of our
energy.
Veda’s research is living proof. For nearly a decade, she’s been studying water crystals, capturing their responses in stunning frozen art, and interpreting what she calls hydroglyphs—messages from water itself.
According to Veda, “hydroglyphs are symbols in ice that have one or more meanings. For example, the symbol for money and abundance is a coin image, and the symbol for love is a heart image. To say I have discovered one hydroglyph, I need to have seen the same image appear after using the same influence, at least fifty times. This tells me that it is not coincidental, and there is enough evidence to say it has specific meaning. Essentially, I am learning to read messages in water that are revealed in frozen symbology. This liquid crystal language is not as simple as ABC. Hydroglyphs are very conceptually complex. When various glyphs are seen together, there is a story to be told, and a scene that is set.”
If you're interested, consider buying her book, “Hydroglyphs.”
However, water doesn't always speak in hydroglyphs. My friend Leah, that I took the class with, had her daughter ask a question. She asked, “What does heaven look like?” and this is what the water shared:
Our bodies are mostly water, so how we speak to ourselves and each other matters. Every thought, every word, every emotion. We’re imprinting it into the very waters within us. This matters to our healing and spiritual practice, because it reminds us that we’re not separate from nature.
We are nature. We are not separate from each other. Let’s remember that when we don’t understand “those people.”
Water flows through us, remembers us, responds to us. When we choose Love, Grace, and Truth in our inner dialogue, we’re not just being kind, we’re literally tuning the frequency of our body and spirit. Healing becomes a conversation. And water, as both mirror and messenger, is always listening. It’s a frequency. With the heaviness of the world, let’s do our best to keep our frequency high and “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Honoring water is a daily practice for me. Every night, I fill a glass and place it on a special coaster I created. I charge it with intention as it rests overnight. Each morning, drinking that water is one of my sacred habits. I speak love into it, often affirming how I want to feel and who I’m choosing to be. I bless the water in my shower, asking it to wash away frequencies that no longer serve me. In the cold plunge, I go into heart coherence and connect to the water, whispering “love, love, love and thank you, thank you, thank you” like a mantra. Even at the office, my hot tea becomes a moment of affirmation and presence. Water isn’t just something I drink, it’s a living ally I’m in a relationship with.

Dr. Masaru Emoto revolutionized our understanding of water with his experiments on how words, emotions, and energy affect water’s crystalline structure. In his studies, he exposed water to positive and negative words before freezing it. The results were astonishing:
Words like “Love” and “Gratitude” created beautifully symmetrical, intricate ice crystals.
Negative phrases like “I hate you” resulted in fragmented, chaotic formations.
His research suggests that water responds to intention and frequency—just like we do. If our bodies are mostly water, the way we speak to ourselves and others holds incredible power.
Taking Dr. Emoto’s findings further, researcher Veda Austin has spent nearly a decade studying water’s ability to retain and communicate information. Her work centers around hydroglyphs—symbols that repeatedly appear in ice when water is exposed to specific influences.
According to Veda Austin, hydroglyphs are ice-formed symbols that convey meaning. For example:
To confirm a hydroglyph’s meaning, she ensures the same symbol appears at least fifty times under the same influence, proving it is no coincidence. Her research shows that water doesn’t just respond—it remembers.
If water holds memory and reacts to energy, then every thought, word, and intention imprints upon it. This understanding has deep implications for both personal healing and collective consciousness.
Integrating mindful water practices into your day can elevate your energy, improve your mindset, and deepen your spiritual connection.
Before drinking, set an intention. Try affirmations like:
Place a glass of water on a dedicated coaster, speak a blessing over it, and drink it with gratitude in the morning.
Water can cleanse more than just the physical body—imagine it washing away energy that no longer serves you.
Each sip of tea or water is an opportunity for presence. Infuse it with thoughts of gratitude, peace, or healing.
Water is not just a personal ally—it connects us all. If water flows through every living being, then how we treat it and each other matters. The words we speak, the emotions we hold, and the energy we project ripple outward, influencing both ourselves and the world.
Honoring water is more than a practice—it’s a way of life. Whether through hydroglyphs or daily affirmations, water reminds us that our energy and intentions shape reality. By choosing love, gratitude, and positive intention, we can raise our frequency and create a ripple effect of healing.
