Let Simplicity Lead: How to Shift Your Energy by Doing Less
The New Power Move: Simplicity

A message that needed to be shared
I pull an oracle card for every month. It is something I do to feel aligned with the energy that is meant to support me. For July, the card was Simplicity.
At first, I smiled. I had been feeling the pull to slow down but kept adding more to my plate. Then one day in mid-July, I was in session with a client and the word simplicity came through strongly for her. When I shared it, she said that was the exact card she had pulled that same morning. So obviously that was validation that I needed to share this on my blog. 😊
If You’re Carrying the Weight of the World, Read This!
If you are someone who feels called to fix things, save people, carry the weight of the world and maybe even the universe, I want to speak to you. It is easy to believe that our value is measured in how much we can hold, how many things we can do, how many people we can help. It is not.
This past month, I leaned into simplicity and wow, it was profound for me. I accepted help when it was offered. I cleansed the things in my environment and in my mind that were weighing me down. I said yes to fun and things I would normally turn down.
I even said yes to running a 5K over the 4th of July weekend. I had turned it down the past couple of years. I am so proud of myself for doing it, even if it was a walk and run combination. It was fun to do with my family, and I felt alive in a new way.
I allowed life to be easier, and it actually worked. There is so much more power in stillness. I know this. But my body still freaks out about it sometimes. So I stayed proactive. I kept reminding myself that it was safe to chill out. Safe to soften. Safe to pause.
And the more I allowed myself to pause, the more life flowed.
An Invitation: Choose Simplicity This Month
So this month, I want to invite you into that same energy. Let simplicity guide you. Let it speak to your nervous system. Let it change the way you move through your day.
Here is how we begin.
Simplicity in Your Surroundings
Clear Space, Clear Mind
My home office has been a catch all space for far too long. It holds the overflow of everything that does not have a place. So it is beyond overwhelming. I started giving it fifteen minutes of my attention most days. Just a little time, but with full presence. And little by little, I have started to exhale. I can almost feel the space returning.
Everything in your space is talking to you. The stack of books is saying read me. The papers are saying decide something. The things sitting in the corner are either asking to be used or released. You do not need to overhaul your whole home, but pick one spot and ask yourself what actually belongs.
The way your space feels will shift how you feel.
Simplicity in Your Mind
Tame the Inner Critic with Humor and Awareness
This is something I share often with my clients. Name the loud or negative part of your mind. Give it a nickname. Make it playful. When that voice starts running wild with fear, shame, or control, you can respond to it as just a part of you, not the whole truth.
Years ago, I read Whole Brain Living by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. In that book, she beautifully explains how our brain holds four distinct characters. Each one comes from a different region of the brain and carries its own personality. One of those parts is the inner critic or control freak we often hear in our head. When we name that voice, we stop giving it full authority. We take back our power to choose which part of us leads.
I call that bossy, control freak, Dolores. And sometimes, I literally say out loud, Shut up, Dolores. (No offense to the Dolores’s of the world.) It makes me laugh, and it reminds me I am not that voice. I am the one observing it. I am the one who decides what is true.
You are not your thoughts. You are the one who chooses which thoughts get power.
Try it. When your inner critic flares up, acknowledge it, name it, and then lovingly tell it to take a seat. You are allowed to rewrite the script and simplify your thoughts. Don’t allow the negative ones to validate you! They are just stories, that you never need to feed.
Simplicity in Your Emotions
Let Emotions Move Through You in 90 Seconds
Something I learned years ago that has stayed with me is when an emotion arises, it only takes about ninety seconds to move through the body. That insight also came from Jill Bolte Taylor, and it still holds true today. After those ninety seconds, anything we continue to feel is usually the result of replaying the story or resisting the sensation.
Let that land.
We do not have to relive it. We do not have to fight it. We just have to feel and honor it without judgement.
Recently someone I love said something that truly hurt. It was wasn’t out of spite, she was speaking her truth about my actions and I NEEDED to honor it. The old version of me would have put up a wall or gone into defense mode. But I stayed present. I let myself feel it. I took deep breaths as the emotion spiraled through me. And then, it passed. No anger. No protection needed. Just presence.
It really does work. The more we allow emotions to move, the less they control us. The less we fear them.
Emotions are stored in the body, not in the mind. Your body is wise. Trust it to process what needs to be felt. Then let it go.
Your Simplicity Practice Starts Here
If this resonates with you, let’s clear one “corner” of your space. Pause for three deep breaths before you start your day. Let the loudest voice in your mind soften. Feel your feelings without attaching a story.
Let simplicity be the new trend. Let ease be the new way forward. Let stillness be the place where everything good begins.
