Beyond Resolutions: Cultivating Self-Awareness for Lasting Change in the New Year
How to convert Intentions into Action

"Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can," Arthur Ashe.
Let's begin in this moment. Beyond resolutions and big goals, if we think and act with small, doable steps, we can more effectively direct our energy from within to move ourselves in the direction we want to go.
This new year, let's embrace new beginnings and focus on setting simple, achievable intentions that feel right for us!
As many of you know, I choose an Intention word each year. Intention provides direction, preventing us from becoming stagnant. By consciously deciding how we want to experience the year, we set ourselves up for greater joy and fulfillment.
My suggestion is to break everything down into doable steps. This year to keep you in flow, I would like for you to step into your Intention and get clear on five things that lower your frequency that can be removed from your life. Then get clear on five feelings or experiences that you would like to create and cultivate that will add to your life experiences.
Why Small Steps Are the Key to Big Change
Beyond resolutions and lofty goals, focusing on small, achievable steps can help you channel your energy effectively. By starting with what feels manageable, you create momentum that propels you toward your dreams.
This practice is simple yet transformative. First choose your intention word, then
- Identify five things that lower your energy or frequency that you can release.
- Identify five feelings or experiences you want to embrace to enhance your life.
My Intention Word: Light
Release:
- Negative self-talk
- Talking negatively about others
- Watching the news
- Negative habits
- Negative friends
Embrace:
- My inner child
- My Buddha belly
- My boss
- New experiences
- Fasting
Breaking Intentions into Actionable Steps
Let’s explore how to turn those into actions:
Negative Habit: Drinking Too Much

- Read The Alcohol Experiment for fresh perspectives.
Action:
- Commit to Dry January.
Support:
- Replace happy hours with walking dates with friends.
Reflection:
- Journal for five minutes daily about reclaiming your power.

- Find a friend to join you.
Positive Habit: Fasting

- Download a fasting app for guidance.
Reflection:
- Journal your excitement about cleansing and feeling lighter.
Accountability:
- Partner with a friend for mutual encouragement.
Tips for Staying on Track
- Don’t Wait for Motivation: Motivation often follows action, not the other way around. Start small, and let the energy build naturally.
- Keep It Simple: By breaking your goals into manageable steps, you reduce overwhelm and set yourself up for success.
Why Living with Intention Matters
When we consciously choose what to release and embrace, we unlock more joy and positive energy. Each small step brings us closer to a fulfilling life, fueled by resilience, growth, and commitment to a brighter future.
