Only I Can Change the Now
Only I Can Change the Now
This past year, I had intended on losing at least 10 pounds.
I took small action steps to make it happen and I allowed it to be doable - without feeling like it was work. I succeeded in losing 7 pounds!
…I also succeeded in gaining 5 of those pounds back during the holiday season. So… I officially lost 2 pounds! Woohoo!!
It is December 26th as I write this and I literally just got back from a 5-mile walk/run. Yesterday, we stayed in our jammies and laid around all day long - and I have yet another holiday party to attend this coming weekend.
I have learned to stop being such a control freak aiming for perfection and to instead do my best to begin again in each moment. I don't allow myself to go into the "should have"s or "could have"s because it doesn't change the now: only I can change the now.
If you have been with me a while, you know I always have an intention word for each year, (click here to read my blog titled, "What Do You Want to Experience in the New Year? How Do You Want to Feel?" to see an example of how to choose an intention word and how to move forward).
My intention word for last year was CONNECTION. Because of my children's crazy schedules, I ended up having to turn down many opportunities to connect with many amazing people, but I also know that if I had forced myself to engage in the additional activities, I wouldn't have been able to be "present" because I would have had too much on my mind. That’s just how it goes sometimes.
Despite feeling like I missed out on many opportunities, I am able to look back on lots of incredible moments - connecting with so many of you, my friends and family on such an enlightening level! For that, I am giving myself a pat on the back. I did just fine! (You see how I keep focusing on what I did well?)
So…..what are we going to accomplish in 2019?
For me, well, I at least have to lose those 10 pounds, right?! Below is a basic format that I use to help myself get clear on all of my intentions - while adding easily doable steps and timelines if needed to make each year more fulfilling. Use what works for you. That could be a journal, a white board, sticky notes, an accountability partner, whatever it is that keeps you engaged.
Here are some of my doable steps for my weight loss goals:
• wear my Fitbit and get at least 10,000 steps per day or more (this means I have to take daily walk/runs)
• compete with friends on Map My Run
• commit to abdominal exercises15 minutes a day, three times per week
• drink at least 100 oz of water per day
• chew gum between meals
• continue to follow the healthy menu on emeals.com at least three times per week (my kids love me for this one!)
I’m sure you get the idea. I use weight loss just as an example because it's easy (and a common one for many), but you can certainly adapt this format for whatever your goal is.
I am still working to set my specific 2019 intentions, but my word this year is INSPIRED. When you are finding and setting your thematic word for yourself for the year, allow it to be a feeling within your body. In order to manifest anything, you have to feel the energy first. And as always, keep it positive!
Overall, I have learned that you accomplish a lot more by setting intentions and goals. There is no need for dramatics though – just allow them to be fun, doable, and a good source of growth.
Thanks for being so damn beautiful! I appreciate you!
Happy 2019!!
Let's embrace KINDNESS in 2019!
Stay inspired!
