Is Your Vision for 2020 Clear?
What is your 2020 Intention word? How do you want to feel?
January 2020
Oh, the new year – it’s time for “New year, new me!” Before jumping into discussing our annual intention word and steps to create the life we want, take time prior to January 1st to reflect on the previous year. This will include jotting down everything that went really well and the crap that didn't work.
Materials needed for this exercise: pen and paper or a computer, time (~ at least an hour), and an open mind!
First Step: The Good Stuff
Write down everything that you are PROUD of accomplishing (e.g., challenging situations that you pushed yourself through, setting boundaries). Do this with excited intention and as if it just happened. Remember, everything is energy. Don't worry about organizing your thoughts – just let it flow and don’t shy away from creativity!
Note: If during this section, you find yourself saying “Yeah, I’m proud of that accomplishment but I could have done better” take a deep breath and allow that thought to flow right on out as you continue to focus on the good
Recommended time: 30-45 minutes.
Example:
-
It felt so good to be more present with my children. Being their daily soccer practice chauffeur gave us time to play car games and share experiences.
-
I Love that fight over the bathroom remodel turned into some magic emotional sharing between Scott and me.
-
It was such a blessing that I was able to take that training in New Mexico! AND during Leyara's soccer tournament that was in the same location. It was perfect!
-
I Love that I have been cooking more healthy dinners for the family.
Second Step: The Could’ve Been Better Stuff
Write down a few things that you are not so proud of but also include how you could have handled them differently.
Recommended time: 15-30 minutes.
Example:
-
I am so pissed at myself for not being as active once school started back up and the cold weather hit. I do Love that I pushed myself over the summer, but I need to keep moving. I intend to take at least 30 minutes either at home or at the kids' practices in the afternoon to go for a walk. I could also do morning yoga at home.
-
I seriously suck at just breathing sometimes! My triggers are a trip. I intend to journal more about them and "tap" on them when they come up instead of freaking out.
Last Step: The Moving Forward Stuff
Envision and/or journal about 2019 as if you flowed through it in a manner that you are proud of without implementing the negative moments. Avoid creating stories around your bad behavior or that which exists in the world; these will just evolve into visions that you have no control over and that do not matter. This is not ignorance but rather allows us to keep moving forward in faith and Love instead of lack and fear.
Recommended time: 15-30 minutes.
Example of my vision:
I see myself with a smile on my face and I FEEL excited and happy about life and my experiences. I see and feel people around me feeling the same way. My children are laughing and sharing life experiences. I am not judging them, (smile) but loving on them as they are. I see my clients releasing and giggling. They are filled with joy and freedom, I have glimpses of date nights with Scott and it expands my heart. I am grateful for all of the giggles and life-changing a-ha moments with my girlfriends. I see and feel all of the GOOD moments around the world and it feeds my soul.
2020 Vision
Now that we’ve dealt with 2019, let's focus on how we want to FEEL in 2020! What is your 20/20 vision for next year? How are you going to embrace this new decade? If you’re not sure how to start, here is an exercise to help you.
Close your eyes and create the feeling. Drop into your heart and feel your inner light expand while taking your time and allowing your energy to get bigger. As you begin to feel expansive and limitless ask, “How do I want to feel this year?” What was the very first word that you received? THAT FIRST WORD is your intention word for 2020. Don't allow the word to throw you off as there is always a deeper meaning. I recently had a client that was a bit perplexed by the word she received: ECHO. Don't you Love how the universe shows up in unexpected ways? When she shared with me, it took me a 1/2 a second and then the cheesiest smile filled my face. The universe was telling her what you put out into the world, you shall receive back. How powerful is that?! The first time I did this, the word I received was OPEN. The universe was telling me when you have an open heart, you accept everyone and everything as he/she/it is. I want more of this in my life!!
Once you are clear on your intention word, begin to get clear on what you will manifest this coming year to support how you want to feel. Break it into categories, then into subcategories, then into doable steps. Maybe even get an accountability partner to meet with once a month.
As always, keep this doable and fun.
Much Love,
Dena
