EFT for Forgiveness Series #5- Self Forgiveness
How to forgive yourself and let go of pain!
Forgiveness—it’s a word that often feels easier to offer to others than to ourselves. Yet,
self-forgiveness is one of the most profound acts of self-love and healing. In this post, we’ll explore how to let go of the heavy energy of self-blame and embrace emotional freedom using a simple yet powerful tool:
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). Let’s dive in and discover how you can begin to release what no longer serves you and make way for a lighter, more vibrant self. 🌟
Why Self-Forgiveness Matters
We all have moments when we’ve betrayed ourselves. Maybe we’ve engaged in negative self-talk, acted out of alignment with our values, or made choices that left us feeling disappointed in ourselves. These experiences can leave us weighed down by guilt, regret, and shame. But here’s the truth: holding onto these emotions doesn’t serve us. Instead, it pulls at our energy, leaving us stuck in a cycle of self-punishment.
How I feel about me is what matters, not how other people feel about me. If I keep holding myself hostage, I’m just going to feel bad, and it’s not working. Self-forgiveness isn’t about ignoring our mistakes—it’s about acknowledging them, learning from them, and letting go of the emotional baggage that holds us back.
The Power of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) 👐
EFT, also known as tapping, is a practical and effective way to release stuck energy in the body and mind. By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on uncomfortable emotions, we can process and release the feelings that have been holding us back.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to using EFT for self-forgiveness:
- - Identify a moment where you feel you betrayed yourself—whether through negative self-talk, a decision you regret, or not standing in your truth.
- - Allow yourself to feel this emotion fully. On a scale from 0 to 10, gauge how intense the feeling is. The goal is to bring it as close to 10 as possible to create a dramatic emotional release.
- - Begin tapping on the side of your hand and repeat affirmations like, “Even though I betrayed myself, I love, accept, and forgive myself.” Acknowledge the pain but also affirm your humanity and your ability to heal.
- - Move through other tapping points (e.g., top of the head, eyebrow, side of the eye) while voicing your feelings. Be honest with yourself: “I didn’t use discernment, and it hurts, but I am human, and I’m doing the best I can.”
This process helps shift the heavy energy and allows you to release the emotions that no longer serve you. See it as energy because that’s all it is—energy you’re hanging on to that makes you feel like crap. Time to forgive yourself and let it go.
Feel the Shift and Let It Go
As you go through the tapping process, visualize the heavy energy leaving your body. Imagine it dissipating, leaving you feeling lighter and freer. Take a deep breath and affirm: “I am letting this go, and I’m still safe. I’m still me, and it feels good.”
If the intensity of the emotion hasn’t decreased significantly (down to a 1 or 2), repeat the process. The key is to honor the feelings as they arise and allow them to surface rather than suppressing them. Remember, healing takes patience and compassion.
Affirming Your Humanity and Moving Forward 🌈
Forgiving yourself doesn’t mean condoning your mistakes—it means choosing not to let them define you. It’s about recognizing that you are human, imperfect, and worthy of love and compassion. I can choose to better myself and make different choices, but I don’t have to continue to punish myself for the past.
Letting go of guilt and shame creates space for growth, self-love, and renewed energy. It’s a transformative act that allows you to step into your power and move forward with grace and hope.
