Why Forgiving Yourself Matters

In challenging times, depression can creep in, leaving us feeling heavy, hopeless, and stuck. It’s easy to blame ourselves for these feelings, but forgiveness starts by honoring the emotions within us. "Even though I have felt really helpless and hopeless and alone, I love, accept, and forgive myself." This acknowledgment is the first step in releasing the emotional weight that depression often brings.


Forgiving yourself is not about ignoring or dismissing your feelings. It’s about recognizing them, allowing them to surface, and giving yourself permission to let go. Depression doesn’t define you—it’s simply a part of your journey, and one you have the power to overcome.

I’m not shoving it back down for it to show up again later. I’m taking the time to honor it. Depression. The depression that I’ve been feeling. The hopelessness that I’ve been feeling. The pity party that I’ve been having. I’m ashamed of it, but I’m gonna honor it.

  • Begin tapping on specific points on your body while repeating affirmations such as, "Even though I feel this way, I love, accept, and forgive myself."
  • Continue until you feel a sense of relief or lightness.

It’s not about reaching perfection overnight—it’s about being willing to take small, consistent steps toward feeling better. I know it might take a while to climb out of this hole, but I’m willing to do the work because it doesn’t feel good in this place.
