Where Are You Going?
Where Are You Going?
It’s been a rough several months for me and my family. We've
gone through so many changes, so much anger, sadness, disappointments,
frustrations, lost expectations. There are times when I wonder if I will
ever get over this. Will it ever get better?
Last month, I saw a post that Dena had sent out on her Light of Mine
page that
said, “If you don’t know where you are going, even distractions look like
opportunities.” I thought, yep that’s good for people who are working on
their life goals and aspirations - but not where I am right now. But it kept
sticking to me. I kept thinking about that quote. I realized that it actually
applied to me right now, where I am going in this very rough time.
So, where am I going right now? I’m going THROUGH something. I am traveling
through pain, depression, anger, fear, and loss. And oh, how much a distraction
would feel SO great! Something or someone to make me feel better, to take
the pain away. I could easily see where I might think a distraction is
something that is meant to happen, or as an opportunity that’s really not an
opportunity. But we will tell ourselves just about anything to make the pain
stop as soon as possible.
However, even though a distraction would be so great and feel so good, it
would keep me from getting where I am going, where I need to be. It would
slow any progress I have made, or cause the end of the pain to take longer. It
would prolong the great things that are coming my way. Or it would cause me
to walk into those good things unprepared and with leftover baggage that
doesn’t belong there.
So, I know where I am going, but in order to get there, I have to
go through this. I want
to get through it. I have to fight against the distractions, the desperate
feeling of looking for a quick (and temporary) reprieve. I want to reach my
destination without a lot of casualties, so I will let the opportunities come
to me from a place of peace, not from a place of desperate distraction.
Mantra: I focus on where I am going.
