Choosing Love Over Fear in a Heavy World

An attendee from our recent women’s retreat shared something that really stayed with me. She had been struggling, like so many of us, with the heaviness of the world. Watching the news every day, feeling it drain her, pull her down, and disconnect her from herself. It was affecting her energy in a way she could feel, but didn’t quite know how to shift.
And honestly, Ingrid, that’s where so many people are right now.
When the World Feels Heavy, It’s Not Just in Your Head
During the retreat, we did the work. We cleared energy, practiced how to cleanse, protect, and charge our own field, and took our power back from old stories. We talked about coming back to center, back to Love, and yes, how to tell that negative voice to shut the heck up.
It wasn’t surface level. It was real, intentional, and something she leaned into fully. You could feel she was ready for something to shift.
What Happens When You Actually Shift Your Energy
After the retreat, she shared an experience with me that said everything. She hugged another woman, and during that hug, something moved through her body. She described it as this beautiful, tingly energy that stayed even after they let go.
That right there is what happens when we start doing the work. We become more open, more aware, and more connected to what’s actually moving through us.
This Is the Power You Create
That moment filled my heart for two reasons. One, because she trusted me enough to share it. And two, because I could feel how much she had raised her frequency through her own willingness to show up and shift.
This wasn’t something given to her. This was something she created through her awareness. And that’s where the real power is.
The Real Test: Choosing Love in the Moment
The very next day, I had my own opportunity to practice what I teach. I was driving to work when a big truck cut me off, covered in bumper stickers that were not in alignment with my values.
In the past, I would have gone straight into judgment, maybe even had a nasty thought, and then attempted to “send Love” while still feeling triggered underneath it. You know that version, where we say the right thing but don’t actually feel it.
But this time was different. I caught it immediately and chose something else.
How to Shift Your Energy in Real Time
I took a deep breath and went straight into gratitude. I started naming everything I was grateful for:
- I’m grateful that I choose Love.
- I’m grateful that I practice kindness.
- I’m grateful that I am self-aware.
- I’m grateful that people come from different life experiences.
- I’m grateful that I can hold compassion, even when I don’t agree.
- I’m grateful that I’m a helper.
- I’m grateful that Mr. Rogers would be proud of me.
And then I changed lanes, without giving my power away.
No spiral. No emotional hangover. No carrying that energy into the rest of my day.
Just clear, grounded, and fully in my own energy.
Becoming Your Own Anchor
Because sometimes we don’t have our hype people sitting next to us reminding us who we are. So we have to become that voice for ourselves.
Love and Gratitude Are Frequencies You Can Choose
Love and gratitude are powerful frequencies for us to operate from, and when we choose them intentionally, they change our lives. Not just how we feel, but what we create, what we attract, and how we move through the world.
Our thoughts can pull us down quickly, but they can also lift us just as fast when we become aware of them.
Give yourself grace when you slip. And celebrate all of the wins.
A Simple Challenge for This Month
So this month, I’m keeping it simple. I’m choosing to operate from love and gratitude as much as I possibly can. April is my birthday month, and I’ve decided to love the hell out of everything.
And I would Love for you to join me in that.
Let’s challenge ourselves to see how long we can stay in a state of love and gratitude before slipping back into old patterns. Let’s notice how quickly we can catch ourselves when we do and shift it.
Try These Questions Instead
Instead of asking “why is this happening?” try asking:
- What can I do with this?
- What can I shift?
- What’s good about this experience?
- What if I let myself feel this fully, honor it, and then let it go?
