Hi, it's nice to meet you. What's your purpose?
Hi, it's nice to meet you. What's your purpose?
This is how my girlfriend, Devi, introduces herself to her daughters’ boyfriends. It always gave me the giggles. No pressure right?
I’ve recently found myself asking many of my clients this same question. Many of us live our lives going from goal to goal, event to event, drama to drama. It’s only natural that we experience highs and lows because once we’ve accomplished one goal―then what? Once that new, shiny object isn't so shiny anymore, what is it that’s supposed to feed our soul?
So I ask you, what is your purpose? Why are you here in this lifetime?
Let's get personal and specific now. We all have gifts to share. We may have the gift of creativity, the gift of music, the gift of compassion, cooking, endurance, caring or even logic. If you aren’t sure what your gift is, think about your 2018 intention word or how you want to feel this year.
For example, my intention word for 2018 is connection so that’s what I’ll use to support my purpose this year. I will create a knowing within my energy that I intend to not only authentically connect with people, but also help create connection among my tribe. As my annual purpose, I will be conscious of it daily.
For many, their purpose is even simpler than that―on paper: We are all here to love and be loved. In life, however, it’s not always so easy to love ourselves or others as we are. Being conscious of this is a good start.
I also know that part of my life purpose is to help others love and accept themselves so they can love and accept others. I do my best to be conscious of this. While some days, weeks, months are better than others, the intention is always within my being. Remembering this is what I often use to get over the pity parties I sometimes throw for myself.
In the end, life is meant to be bigger than you or me. When we remember this and support one another in our journeys, it's not so lonely. It also helps us to stop feeding our B.S. stories and add the spark back into our souls and the souls around us.
I would love to post your purpose with others via my Facebook page to help you solidify it and perhaps inspire others. If you are interested, please respond and sign it however you’d like me to share it. I am also happy to help you discover what your purpose may be. Please just reach out.
